Many think Paul's occasional comments override Jesus explicit teaching and their practice. That's a confusion of what Paul was saying, that authentic faith is the root and works are the fruit. Authentic faith without works is dead, and conversely works without authentic faith is dead.
Obedience to the faith includes all of the commandments of Jesus, as required to be taught in the great commission.
[Mat 28:20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."]
Like we don't run amok when driving on our roads, rather having traffic laws/disciplines to sustain harmonious standards of behaviour now and for all generations to come.
1 John 2:5 "But whoever keeps His word, truly the love () of God is perfected in him."
Life's biosphere/ecosphere depend on the infinite to maintain living Life-Sustaining-Systems.
God/Jesus chart the paths of life, to overcome large scale entropy.
Paul's comments can't undermine Jesus' litmus tests. It's root and fruit, as also seen in the parables of the Talents, and other teachings of Jesus.
Remembering that God is longsuffering and loves mercy when people sincerely try and do the right thing, as best they understand it. Human prayer intercession is part of what believers do, to relieve the problem. To whom much is given more is expected.
Eph 5:9 (for the fruit of the (biblically uncontroversial) Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth).
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
2Pe 1:5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue(purity), to virtue knowledge,
2Pe 1:6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
2Pe 1:7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
2Pe 1:8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mat 7:16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
Mat 7:17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (after they die, usually a second time)
Mat 7:20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
Like alcoholics anonymous, the first step is recognition, ie that we have a sin problem, and that God provided the remedy in Jesus, God/Man, where the infinite stepped into the finite to reconnect us all and resolve large scale
cosmic entropy, etc, for earth's biosphere, as only an infinite God can do. No finite solution is possible it has to be (biblically uncontroversial, with heptadic reality check) infinite, for the Cosmos. Finite approaches can't do much more than improve our earth, medical conditions, etc.
